For our final “Music in the Galleries” of the season, FCM is excited to present Brazilian-born violinist Mariama Alcântara. She will be performing works by J.S. Bach, as well as Flausino Vale and André Mehmari, both featured composers on her new album, Brazilian Landscapes.
Dr. Mariama Alcântara has earned recognition for her artistry as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician. Mariama grew up in a musical family, making her solo debut at the age of 12 with the Paraiba Symphony Orchestra. Presently she is a member of the Austin Lyric Opera, Iris Chamber Orchestra, and also performs with the Austin Symphony Orchestra. A 2019 recipient of the prestigious Dorothy Delay Starling Foundation Fellowship, Mariama earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado Boulder as a student and teaching assistant of Professor Harumi Rhodes and Ed Dusinberre of the Takács Quartet.
This classical Sunday afternoon will include two identical concerts at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (a break will occur from 12–1 p.m.) Performances are included with museum admission. For tickets purchased online, FCM patrons receive $2 off adult and senior tickets with code MUSIC.
