Hailing from Seattle, Ellie Havens spent over 30 years as a freelance clarinetist, performing in theater and chamber music settings. Her freelance life ran parallel with jobs in the corporate world—first at Amazon, then at a cryptocurrency firm.
After retiring from corporate life, Ellie and her husband relocated to Denver. Her first concert in the city? Friends of Chamber Music’s 2023 performance featuring clarinetist David Shifrin—a serendipitous welcome back into the classical music world. The concert included the opportunity to meet DU faculty member, clarinetist Jeremy Reynolds. Ellie found herself reconnected with the local arts scene and soon took a part-time job with the Colorado Youth Symphony.
Eager to do more, Ellie checked out our website, saw our call for volulnteers, clicked “Contact Us,” and never looked back. She quickly dove into a major project: helping us migrate our data to a new donor database—an enormous lift that’s already had a meaningful impact. Ellie’s background in both music and tech made her the perfect person for the job.
Today, she’s added a role with Central City Opera to her growing arts resume—and when she’s not working, she’s out in the garden or singing with the Cherry Creek Chorale. Ellie says she’s loved meeting our board members, learning a new system, and getting involved in Denver’s vibrant cultural community.
Thank you, Ellie, for your energy, generosity, and many hours of dedication!
