Music in the Galleries: Masakazu Ito, classical guitar

Enjoy a Sunday afternoon in the museum galleries with classical guitarist Masakazu Ito

Join us for a beautiful afternoon of music, featuring classical guitarist Masakazu Ito.  One of today’s premiere guitarists, Ito is acclaimed by musicians, composers, conductors, and critics for his mastery of the instrument and its repertoire.  His program features highlights from Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s towering masterpiece, Suite Platero y Yo, Op. 190, based on poetic sketches written by Juan Ramón Jiménez.

This event will include two identical concerts at noon and 1 p.m.   Performances are included with museum admission.  For tickets purchased online, FCM patrons receive $2 off adult and senior tickets with code MUSIC.

Masakazu Ito:  Following his professional solo debut in Tokyo 1987, Ito won top prizes in seven major international guitar competitions, and performs around the world to this day.  The Los Angeles Times wrote “Ito displayed conspicuous skill and tonal range… [he] proved himself to be a clean and technically adroit player, whizzing through thorny passages with aplomb.”  He currently serves as a music professor at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, where he is the musical director and conductor of the Colorado School of Mines Philharmonic Orchestra.

Seating is limited and first come, first served. The music may be enjoyed from any gallery.
