SUMMARY:Paul Lewis\, piano
DESCRIPTION:Internationally acclaimed pianist Paul Lewis returns to the FCM stage to open FCM’s Piano Series\, launching his US tour in Denver with his thoughtfully curated program “Mozart+.” Renowned for his masterful interpretations of the Central European repertoire\, Lewis pairs Mozart’s lesser-known piano works with music by Debussy and Poulenc\, illuminating Mozart’s far-reaching influence and giving fresh attention to pieces often overshadowed by his concertos. I can’t wait for the Fandango we play at the end. Boccherini had a very sensuous side\, and the audience goes bananas!” \nCLICK HERE  to read more from Sharon Isbin and Calidore violinist Ryan Meehan in this preview article by freelance journalist Kim Millett. \n  \nLIVESTREAM UPDATE: Due to artist requirements\, this concert will not be streamed live.  A recorded version will be available to watch starting Saturday\, October 18. \nThank you to the Colorado Sun for supporting this event. \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Imani Winds
DESCRIPTION:The Grammy-nominated Imani Winds have led the way in the evolution of the wind quintet through their dynamic playing and adventurous programming. The ensemble will perform Black and Brown\, an entire program celebrating composers of color such as Valerie Coleman\, Paquito D’Rivera\, and Wayne Shorter. \nCelebrating over a quarter century of music making\, the Imani Winds has led both a revolution and evolution of the wind quintet. The ensemble’s playlist embraces traditional chamber music repertoire\, and newly commissioned works from voices that reflect historical events and the times in which we currently live. Imani Winds’ travels through the jazz world are highlighted by their multi-faceted association with luminary musicians and composers Wayne Shorter\, Paquito D’Rivera and Jason Moran. To date\, one of Imani Winds’ most humbling recognitions is a permanent presence in the classical music section of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. \n \nPRE-CONCERT TALK: Join us in the hall at 6:30 PM for a pre concert talk by musician\, educator and FCM Board Member Dan Knopf.  Dan will explore the history and foundations of woodwind instruments and the woodwind quintet\, and talk about the musical motives (melodies)\, motors (rhythms)\, and meanings within the Imani Winds’ program.
