Formed in 1985, this renowned Austrian quartet specializes in the music of the 18th century, performing on gut-stringed period instruments that give their playing a unique sound.
Haydn has been credited with inventing the string quartet, and serves as the central figure of this all-Viennese program in which two quartets composed and dedicated to him by Mozart are appropriately paired with a third quartet by Haydn himself.
"Simply close one's eyes and the musical vitality is instantly apparent." — The Independent (London)
